The department was established on September 1, 2015 on the basis of the Department of Physics and Applied Mechanics and the Department of Theoretical and Applied Informatics.
Educational activities
The department is a graduate department in the areas of training "014 Secondary Education (Mathematics, Physics, Informatics)", "122 Computer Science" and "111 Mathematics".
The educational process is provided by the teaching staff of the department:

Scientific activity
The scientific work of the department is related to the study of physical and mechanical fields in polymers and composites, the use of information technologies in various fields of science, technology, economics and education, in particular: system analysis and modeling of technical, economic, social and other processes and objects; process management in the fields of economics, technology, education, tourism; research of discrete mathematical structures and combinatorial schemes; research on data analysis in sociology, psychology, pedagogy; quality management of distance learning in higher education institutions; application of information technologies in the tourism industry and hotel and restaurant business. The results of the research work of the teachers are used in teaching information disciplines in many areas of study at LNU.
The teachers of the Department of Mathematics and Informatics improve their qualifications in leading research institutions of Ukraine and Europe. They actively cooperate with the Institute of Geotechnical Mechanics named after N. S. Polyakov of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Zaporizhia National University, Kyiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN, Geneva).

The Department of Physical and Technical Systems and Informatics has a scientific group "Physics: Methods of Teaching Physics". The main areas of the group's work:
- Theoretical principles for improving physics teaching in secondary and tertiary educational institutions.
- Theoretical principles for solving physics problems.
- Formation of professional competencies of future physics teachers in tertiary educational institutions.
- Use of information and communication technologies in teaching physics.
- Improvement of the educational experiment in physics according to modern pedagogical trends.
