Historical background
March 1, 1921 - the Lugansk State Pedagogical Institute was established;
1927 - the Faculty of Professional Education was established at the Technical and Mathematical Department;
1931 - the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics was established;
2001 - the Institute of Economics and Business was established, which included the main
specialties of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics;
December 1, 2007 - the Institute of Information Technologies (IIT) was established.
June 25, 2013 - it was renamed the Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies.

September 01, 2014 - was relocated to the city of Starobilsk, Luhansk region.
June 25, 2016 - was renamed the Educational and Scientific Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies (IFMIT).

August 23, 2017 - was moved to the city of Rubizhne (12 Klubnyi Avenue), Luhansk region

With the beginning of open armed aggression, IMIT left the city of Rubizhne, however lost all premises and equipment
June 27, 2022 - was moved to Myrhorod (90 Gogolya St.), Poltava Region.
August 30, 2022 - was moved to Myrhorod (52/15 Starosvitska St.), Poltava Region.
December 1, 2023 - by order of the rector No. 104-OD (dated 08/25/2023), the Educational and Scientific Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Information Technologies was liquidated and the Educational and Scientific Institute of Mathematics and Information Technologies (IMIT) was created on the basis of the university's structural divisions.
Faculty of Physics and Mathematics
Years of existence: 1931-2001
Among the outstanding scientists of physics and mathematics: Kononenko Petro Ivanovich, Bogomolov Petro Dmitrievich, Korablev Ivan Filippovich, Smichenko Andriy Semenovich, Moskvich Mikhail Ivanovich, Gavrylko Grigoriy Ivanovich, Lopovok Lev Mikhailovich, Kulandina Oleksandra Nikolaevna and others.
These scientists are bright personalities, professionals, demanding leaders and organizers of the scientific and creative life of physics and mathematics.
Among the graduates of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics are outstanding teachers, engineers, scientists, cultural figures, officials, businessmen and entrepreneurs, leaders and activists of public organizations of the all-Ukrainian and regional level, as well as many young talented people, having gained knowledge and life experience at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, confidently began their professional path.
Institute of Mathematics and Information Technologies
Institute of Mathematics and Information Technology (IMIT) is the successor to the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics, "Physics and Mathematics", which was founded in 1931.
IMIT successfully carries out research, teaching and educational activities, relying on the best world and domestic traditions, guided by modern principles and the latest trends in the development of the educational services sector.
For significant achievements in the organization of the educational process, IMIT was awarded a silver medal at the exhibition "Modern Education in Ukraine - 2010" in the nomination: "Competency-based approach in higher education".
The material base of IMIT and highly qualified specialists allow training teachers, scientists, engineers, lecturers. IMIT has licenses for training bachelors and masters in the following specialties:
- secondary education in specializations (mathematics, physics, computer science),
- computer engineering,
- computer science,
- software engineering,
- physics and astronomy,
- mathematics,
- systems analysis.
Under martial law, IMIT has reduced the number of specialties for which recruitment has been announced.

IMIT has educational and scientific laboratories, computer classes, which are equipped with modern devices and specialized equipment. IMIT students have repeatedly won prizes at all-Ukrainian student Olympiads and participated in student research paper competitions.
IMIT proudly preserves the glorious traditions of the life of physics and mathematics, because from generation to generation the traditions of symbiosis of solid knowledge and art are passed down. We believe that IMIT graduates will write a new page of success in the history of Taras Shevchenko National University of Lviv, achieved through hard work, perseverance and joint inspired work of students and teachers.
